Cannot Install KB5036980
Microsoft has released KB5036980 (OS Builds 22621.3527 and 22631.3527) Preview on April 23, 2024 that shows some Microsoft Store apps in the Recommended section of the Start menu (you can disable ads via Settings), improves the Widgets icons on the taskbar, and fixes some issues. However, sometimes KB5036980 fails to install when you try to install it via Windows Update.
In detail, you could see a message “Install error – 0x80070002”. In some cases, the error code shows 0x800f0922. Many factors may trigger this update error, such as corrupt/incomplete download files, damaged system files, conflicts with PC software, Internet issues, etc.
The good news is that some workarounds can resolve the issue of KB5036980 not installing.

To solve KB5036980 update error 0x80070002/0x800f0922, you can also try to run SFC (System File Checker) and DISM (Deployment Image Servicing and Management). They are two powerful tools to respectively scan & repair damaged or missing Windows system files and repair corrupt files in the Windows image.
Follow these steps if KB5036980 fails to install on Windows 11 23H2 and 22H2.
Step 1: Type Command Prompt into the search box and press Run as administrator.
Step 2: Type sfc /scannow and press Enter.
Step 3: After the SFC scan, copy and paste these commands and press Enter after each one.

#5. Manually Download and Install Windows 11 KB5036980
When KB5036980 fails to install via Windows Update, you can try a manual method – download and install it via Microsoft Update Catalog.
Step 1: Open this website and search for KB5036980.
Step 2: Choose a version as per your system and click Download.
Step 3: Tap on the given link to get the .msu file. Then, double-click on it to start installing the KB update on your PC.
